about

I have set up this blog as an early start in preparing for my retirement from my position as an academic in the School of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds in the UK. For all of my academic career (which I came to late at graduating at the age of 36) I have been a teaching fellow and more involved with the business of teaching and learning rather than as a career researcher. However this has meant a great deal of exposure to and exploitation of research both in the field of teaching and learning but also via the scholarship required for writing the various courses I have taught at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and working with PhD students. This blog and website will reflect my continuing interest in sociology and social science generally. Hopefully it will be a record and reflection on a continuing post-retirement career in sociological scholarship in the company of a wide network of like-minded fellow scholars.
